here’s how class will flow…

  • Each class includes on-land instruction. Your instructor will go over your board, how to use your paddle, and paddle strokes.

  • Then it’s time to head out on the water and paddle to the dock (approx. 10 minutes).

  • Once your board is locked into the anchor system, the rest of class time is devoted to yoga, breathwork, and meditation.

  • You’ll end with floating savasana (seavasana), and then paddle back to shore.

SUP Yoga is right for you if…

✓ You have an adventurous spirit and are willing to try something new. No experience needed!

✓You’re cool with being in open water - we’ve got waves, boats and plenty of energy.

✓ You’re not afraid of a workout. You’re going to move and it’s going to be hard (but totally fun, we promise!).

You might want to stay on land if…

✓ You have zero chill. You’re going to get wet (possibly soaked!) and potentially fall.

✓ You don’t respect the water. There are lots of elements at play when you go out on the water – the current, tide, even how to paddle correctly – and your safety is important.

✓ You’re looking for a high-intensity activity or workout. This ain’t it!

meet your INSTRUCTOR

HI FRIENDS! I’M CIARA DESMOND.

“See the line where the sky meets the sea? It calls me.” - Moana.

Hey, I’m Ciara! And from the quote up there, you can probably guess that I’m a toddler mom (IYKYK). I’m also the founder of South Shore Paddle Co. & Wicked Om Yoga. To say I LOVE learning and teaching about yoga, movement, and wellness is an understatement - I have more than 5,000 hours of teaching and more than 2,000 hours of training under my belt!

Growing up, if there was a body of water nearby, I was in it (my parents called me a little fish). So it’s no surprise that when a friend introduced me to SUP yoga in 2015, I took to it like a fish to water. It’s since become my happy place. I love that paddleboard yoga teaches you to trust that you are more than capable of doing hard things. I love the energy of the water and feeling at one with the ocean. I can’t wait to share that with you.

In addition to balancing on a paddleboard, you’ll find me balancing: two girls under four, two dogs, a husband, and a yoga school.

FAQs

  • Anything you’re comfortable moving in (and not afraid to get wet). Some people wear yoga pants and a t-shirt, others wear bathing suits. Water shoes are optional. In the early part of summer (mostly June), it tends to get chilly so dress in layers that you can easily take off.

South Shore Paddle Board Co. is not responsible for your belongings. We highly recommend purchasing a dry bag (and waterproof phone case) if you want to bring anything with you on the water. You can slide a dry bag underneath your board.

  • Great question! A few things. First, being in open water in the summer means that a SUP yoga class will rarely be quiet and peaceful. There will be boats and people out on the water enjoying the weather. Second, it’s very important to respect the water and the expertise of your instructor, especially when it comes to currents and tides.

  • We love that you’re up for an adventure! We would recommend starting with a 1:1 private SUP yoga class to get you comfortable with being on your paddleboard and out on the water. From there, you can continue with 1:1 classes, or you can go into our Beginner’s Series for four weeks where you’ll build up to standing on your board.

  • You are going to LOVE paddleboard yoga! People that normally do high-intensity workouts are usually the ones that benefit the most. Being on the water is challenging in and of itself, and then there’s the added bonus of turning inward and finding calm among Mother Nature.

  • No, no refunds are available for missed classes.
